Knock Out Search

Knock Out Search

A “knock-out search” is a basic search of the USPTO’s public database of registered trademarks, to identify whether there may be any exactly conflicting marks that may prevent the registration of a proposed trademark application. The search is more thorough than a traditional search engine inquiry. The results of a “Knock Out Search” will provide an indication of the likelihood that a mark that is filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) will be registered as a trademark. A trademark is a word, phrase, symbol, or design that identifies and distinguishes the source of the goods of one party – a party being an individual or a company – from the goods of other parties.
