Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) Policy

An artificial intelligence (“AI”) policy is an internal company policy that instructs employees on how to use and interact with AI in the workplace, including generative AI (“GAI”) and algorithmic AI (“AAI”) tools. An AI policy ideally should contain instructions about which tools may be used, for what purposes, and how the results of any AI outputs should be treated — for example, results may be incorrect, inaccurate, or incomplete. The policy should also explain the risks of misuse, which could include potential consequences such as suspension and termination from employment. Without such a policy, if employees use AI in ways that harm the company or its customers, the company may have limited options for addressing those employees because it will not be clear whether the employees violated any specific terms of their employment.
